The Textile Centre of Excellence is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all our learners. The Centre has a Safeguarding Handbook which outlines how we will do our best to make sure that everyone who is part of our learning community is safe whilst learning. All learners are provided with a card giving the names of, and contact details for, our safeguarding co-ordinators for help and support. The Textile Centre is committed to the Government's Every Learner Matters initiative, whereby professional training providers apply policies and improved learning practices to support vulnerable learners.

Equality & Diversity

The Textile Centre of Excellence seeks to promote equality of opportunity for all. We also recognise and celebrate diversity. Our policy outlines how we work towards the provision of a harassment and discrimination free environment and how we will deal with any complaints if they arise.

The Textile Centre's Annual Awards Presentation 2010

The Textile Centre of Excellence's Annual Awards Presentation Ceremony saw an 8% rise in the number of qualifications achieved during 2010 as Managing Director, Bill Macbeth, spoke about the Centre's thriving business operation in a difficult market: "Training will always be the bedrock of the Centre's operation and I am proud to see the training division flourish in this difficult period."

Keynote speakers at the event included former LSC Director, Margaret Coleman, now Chair of the Media Centre in Huddersfield.

Graham Downhill, Director of Attiger, updated the audience with the Centre's developments in laser and plasma technology - a move spearheaded under the Textile Innovation Programme, supported by Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund.

The President of the Huddersfield Textile Society, Bill Skidmore, presented the Learner of the Year awards to Ruth Ball (A W Hainsworth & Sons Ltd), Philip Leuty (Calder Textiles Ltd) and Monika Zak (Bower Roebuck & Co. Ltd) for their work on manufacturing textile qualifications.

Bill Macbeth closed the ceremony by presenting the Training Company of Year award to Westwood Yarns Ltd and the Equality & Diversity Company of the Year, a new award introduced in 2010, to Prime Formulations Ltd for their outstanding commitment to learning and development.

Open Day at the Textile Centre

The Textile Centre of Excellence recently invited local businesses and residents to come and have a look around the Centre at its 'Open Day' which aimed to raise the profile of skills training in the region.

On Friday 25th March 2011, the Centre opened its doors to demonstrate how investment in training via the national Apprenticeship programme and through other courses can improve company performance and bolster the local economy, and to showcase some of the most recent innovations in textile manufacturing.

The Centre included a range of special offers for those attending, including subsidised training until June 2011.
