The following vacancy is being advertised on behalf of James Heal:


Textile Technician (12 month – Fixed Term Contract)
Salary £17-18k
Flexible working hours (option to finish at 12:30 on Fridays)
39 hours per week
25 days per year holiday

James Heal is a leading manufacturer of testing instruments to the textile industry. Manufacturing everything on-site in Halifax and selling to customers around the world. We are the exception to the rule – we manufacture in the UK and sell to China, not the other way round! We were rewarded for this exceptional feat last year, receiving the Queen’s Award for International Trade.

We are looking for a Textile Technician to work on a fixed term 12 month contract to work on a number of activities including but not limited to:

  • A mixture of physical routine testing on Test Materials Centre products
  • Colour fastness testing
  • To provide accurate test reports
  • To Provide support with the testing of new and modified products as required
  • Testing for compliance with ISO standards
  • The opportunity to take part in product development activities.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Experience in working with fabrics, yarns & chemicals, and some experience of working in testing laboratories
  • Have excellent colour vision
  • The ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and tenacity are key requirements for this role.

Assistant to the MD

Duties to include production chasing, both in house and external processors. Quality control and colour continuity control of fabrics and yarns. Organising fabric specifications and testing procedures. This is a varied and challenging position. Good remuneration package.

Fabric Designer

Working alongside our experienced Head Designer. Responsibile for all aspects of worsted fabric design, principally for menswear. Knowledge of Dobby weaving important. We will consider applicants with proven track record, or less experience with relevant fabric weave qualifications. Good remuneration package based on experience.
